SpaceX performed the 10th consecutive test of its Mark 3 parachute design for the Crew Dragon spacecraft, SpaceNews reported Tuesday.
The company said the latest multiparachute test moves it “one step closer to safely launching and landing NASA astronauts.â€
SpaceX subjected the Mark 3 parachute system to a series of 12 single-parachute tests in October. The company transitioned to the new parachute design in the fall after it encountered problems with the Mark 2 system.
The 10th multiparachute test comes as the company prepares for the planned manned Demo-2 test flight of its Crew Dragon. NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken will be on board Demo-2.
