Rocket Lab has opened its second launch complex located on Wallops Island near NASA’s flight facility in Virginia, TechCrunch reported Friday.
Launch Complex 2 serves as the company’s first launch site in the U.S., with all 10 of its previous launches taking place at LC-1 in New Zealand.
Rocket Lab plans to use the new launch facility for a U.S. Air Force space test program slated to commence in the second quarter of 2020.
Peter Beck, the company’s CEO, said in a press release that Rocket Lab has already provided payload delivery support for the STP program through the Electron launch vehicle at LC-1.
Rocket Lab first announced its list of potential U.S. locations for LC-2 in July 2018. In September, the company completed the installation of a launch platform for the Electron rocket at LC-2.
