A Northrop Grumman subsidiary has been awarded a three-year, $100.3M contract to manufacture fifth-generation 120mm tank ammunition for the U.S. Army’s Abrams ground vehicles.
Alliant Techsystems Operations will produce M829E4 Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized, Discarding Sabot with Tracer Cartridges as part of the firm-fixed-price contract, the Department of Defense said Thursday.
The service branch received one bid and will obligate the full contract amount at the time of award.
Contract work will take place in Minnesota, West Virginia, California, Tennessee and Germany through Feb. 26, 2022.
Alliant Techsystems Operations previously operated under Orbital ATK, which Northrop acquired last year. Production of the tactical tank cartridges commenced in 2015.
M829E4 has penetrator features designed to defeat the protective armor systems.
