Microsoft showcased a service utility vehicle designed to enable augmented and virtual reality capabilities for mission planning functions during an industry event hosted by the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division on Nov. 8.

The Microsoft Tactical Vehicle will work to support warfighters through the use of onboard computing systems, various sensors and other technological features, the Naval Sea Systems Command said Tuesday.

Aside from the vehicle, the company discussed the Azure Hybrid cloud service, machine learning, artificial intelligence and tactical edge computing technologies.

Mark Bolz, a principal engineering architect for Azure Data at Microsoft, said Azure Hybrid will allow users to govern and organize data at any location through the use of Azure Arc and Azure Stack.

“Utilizing the capabilities provided with a hybrid cloud solution can provide the digital transformation changes that will enhance the Navy Warfare Center’s ability to create, test and deploy capabilities to the fleet in an abbreviated time schedule not seen in today’s environment,” said Wally Reed, co-lead at the NSWCDD’s Information Technology Hyper Convergence – Hybrid Cloud Team.

The Department of Defense awarded the potential 10-year, $10B Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud computing contract to Microsoft in October.
