Keith Kingston, director of satellite ground systems and operations for space and intelligence systems at General Dynamics, said the company is now entering the sustainment phase of a certain defense satellite system, Phoenix Business Journal reported Tuesday.
The prime defense contractor has booked $2B in contracts to design and produce the Mobile User Objective System over the last 15 years.
MUOS is an ultra-high-frequency technology designed to facilitate satellite communications for the Department of Defense and allies.
General Dynamics' mission systems business is now working at its Scottsdale, Ariz-based facility to further sustain MUOS under a 10-year, $731.9M contract.
“Generally what we’re doing is sustaining the system, identifying parts that need to be replaced, moving forward with obsolete parts and maintaining the software licenses annually for software patches and security items for software,†Kingston said.
