NASA is slated to deliver ColdQuanta’s Quantum Core atomic technology to the International Space Station as part of the agency’s 19th cargo resupply mission.
The technology is designed to function as a subsystem for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Cold Atom Laboratory, a facility that will allow scientists to conduct quantum physics experimentation and perform studies through the use of ultra-cold quantum gases in microgravity, the company said Monday.
ColdQuanta noted that Quantum Core will help scientists carry out research efforts in earth science and general relativity through the use of a quantum sensor unit and an atom interferometer that measures wave interference.
Bo Ewald, CEO at ColdQuanta, said that the company’s Quantum Core projects with NASA and other government agencies over the past year “all contribute to expanding the capabilities of our foundational technology and to significant advances toward the commercialization of quantum technology.â€
A SpaceX-built Falcon 9 rocket will bring the technology to ISS on Wednesday.
