BAE Systems and aerospace company Jaunt Air Mobility have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore electric energy management approaches for an urban transportation platform.

Both companies seek to examine the possibility of developing a technology to support aircraft electrification and extending urban traffic flow to airspace, BAE said Thursday.

"This strategic collaboration builds on our two decades of heritage as we develop and certify controls and energy management systems for the future of flight," said Ehtisham Siddiqui, vice president and general manager of controls and avionics solutions at BAE.

Jaunt Air Mobility developed an electric powered vertical takeoff-and-landing platform, called Reduced Rotor Operating Speed Aircraft, with a mechanism to reduce flight noise levels when hovering and cruising.

BAE noted has more than 20 years of electric propulsion system development and integration experience, as well as more than 40 years of aircraft controls and avionics experience.
