Amazon Web Services has granted BAE Systems, ECS and Maxar Technologies an AWS Competency designation that recognizes a company's ability to support emergency preparedness, response and recovery missions with the use of cloud-based tools or services.
BAE said Wednesday its Geospatial eXploitation Products portfolio uses AWS' cloud infrastructure to provide first responders and humanitarian aid groups with public safety data and analytics tools necessary to prepare for and respond to critical situations.
Ravi Ravichandran, chief technology officer for BAE’s intelligence and security business, said the AWS Public Safety and Disaster Response Competency status reflects the firm's commitment to security and safety.
ECS noted in a separate announcement it had to demonstrate operational tools, expertise, thought leadership and experience related to AWS technology in order to secure the designation.
George Wilson, president of ECS and a 2019 Wash100 winner, said the partnership with AWS is a key element of the technology services provider's cloud business.
According to Maxar, it aims to help humanitarian organizations use space-based and Earth intelligence tools in the event of a disaster via the Open Data Program, an optical satellite imagery library and the FirstLook service.
Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations and a 2019 Wash100 awardee, said the company works with partners and customers in the government sector to ensure timeliness and effectiveness of response operations with AWS-powered geospatial imagery or analytics.
BAE, ECS and Maxar serve as consulting partners under the AWS Partner Network.
