Twelve companies have each received a $750K grant to support the U.S. Air Force’s space technology needs, Space News reported Tuesday.
The Air Force awarded checks and corresponding contracts at the service branch’s first Air Force Space Pitch Day in San Francisco. USAF worked with Starburst Aerospace to administer the event.
Projects under the contracts will support USAF’s Small Business Innovation Research program and may move forward to future phases to receive more funds.
Will Roper, USAF assistant secretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, said the service branch will hold the pitch day annually.
“As long as innovation works this way, we want to be a partner that works with you at your time of need,†Roper said.
