Raytheon and Saab conducted flight tests for a shoulder-launched weapon system designed to engage moving and stationary targets.
The Carl-Gustaf laser-guided munition can reach up to 1.2 miles and provide fire from internal structures, Raytheon said Thursday.
Sam Deneke, vice president of land warfare systems at Raytheon, said it has partnered with Saab to build a weapon that can pierce multiple targets at an expanded range.
"This lightweight round can overmatch potential adversaries while decreasing collateral damage, making it an ideal weapon when fighting under restricted rules of engagement," added Deneke.Â
The team received a contract in 2018 to demonstrate a guided munition technology for the weapon.
Raytheon noted Carl-Gustaf has been used by the U.S. Army and other military forces from over 40 countries. The two entities are slated to test an all-up round in 2020.
