NASA and Northrop Grumman have launched the latter’s Cygnus spacecraft carrying scientific research payload to the International Space Station.

Cygnus lifted off from the NASA Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia aboard an Antares 230+ rocket and delivered 8.2K pounds of cargo and experiments as part of the agency’s Commercial Resupply Services 2 contract, NASA said Sunday.

The NG-12 mission will support research efforts such as personal protective equipment testing, zero-gravity food processing and 3D printing with recycled materials.

The latest mission comes after the 11th cargo delivery effort which was launched in April and began an extended duration flight in August.

Cygnus will carry trash from the ISS upon its expected return to Earth by January.
