An Aspen Systems-made technology has increased the computing power of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center’s Discover supercomputer by over 30 percent.
The company said Monday its Scalable Unit 15 project installed a 25.6K-core computing unit into Discovery, boosting the supercomputer’s capacity to analyze and model climate data.
SCU15 includes 25.6K Intel Xeon Skylake processor cores, 10 Motivair ChilledDoor units and 192 gigabytes of memory per node.
“With the successful integration of the newest scalable compute unit, our users now have the largest computational partition ever installed within the Discover cluster,†said Dan Duffy, chief of Goddard’s Computational and Information Sciences and Technology Office.
