GPS Source, a subsidiary of General Dynamics’ mission systems business, has provided Germany-based U.S. forces with a new situational awareness technology designed to function in global positioning system-denied environments.
General Dynamics said Tuesday it installed the Mounted Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing Data System, or MAPS, Gen 1 on U.S.-owned Stryker armored vehicles stationed in Germany.
MAPS Gen 1 works to facilitate data transmission to military devices without relying on GPS. The modular system also features scalability to allow for updates.
Robert Horton, vice president and director for PNT products at General Dynamics Mission Systems, said MAPS Gen 1 addresses a technology gap for the service branch in mission locations across the globe.
Army units may purchase the MAPS Gen 1 system through the Common Hardware Systems procurement contract.
