Boeing has been recognized at the Aviation Week Laureate Awards ceremony held Tuesday for efforts to demonstrate environmentally friendly aircraft systems and a land-based missile defense platform.
The company said Tuesday its ecoDemonstrator program, which aims to reduce fuel consumption and emissions of an airplane, received the inaugural Commercial Aviation Sustainability Laureate Award.
Boeing's ground-based midcourse defense initiative with the Missile Defense Agency was honored with the Defense Weapons Platforms Laureate Award for a third time. The program won two previous awards in the same category during 2015 and 2018.
MDA and the company tested the potential of GMD interceptors to engage an intercontinental ballistic missile target in space and additional debris earlier this year.
