Woolpert-Optimal GEO JV to Gather Seafloor Lidar Data Under USACE Contract

A joint venture between Woolpert and Optimal GEO has secured a five-year, $49.9 million contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to carry out maintenance, operations and technical support efforts for the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise.

WMR-532 will use the Imaging Lidar and Coastal Zone Mapping tools to gather and handle topographic and bathymetric lidar data, or light detection and ranging data, of shallow and beach water seafloors as part of the firm-fixed-price contract, Woolpert said Friday.

The joint venture previously received a contract in 2017 to gather post-storm imagery and lidar data after hurricanes Irma, Maria, Matthew and Michael to record and model weather effects in Alaska.

“By accurately mapping the near-shore environment and ocean floor with this proven data, we can address increasingly impactful coastal issues around the world, promoting resiliency, recovery and navigation safety,” said John Gerhard, director of maritime solutions at Woolpert.

Contract work will take place in various locations within and outside the continental U.S. and USACE will obligate funding at the issuance of task orders.
