Mav Turner, vice president of product management at SolarWinds, wrote in a GCN opinion piece published Friday that managing hyperconverged infrastructure requires skilled manpower and continuous monitoring in order for government agencies to reap the benefits of HCI technology.
He said HCIs combine storage, processing and networking functions into a single platform designed to operate on-premises or in the cloud.
Turner noted that information technology managers should have complete visibility into HCIs after the deployment process to understand how IT applications, integrated components and services will affect each other and legacy platforms across the organization.
He urged agencies to incorporate asset monitoring and automation tools when developing plans to implement such infrastructure.
The adoption of HCIs can help agencies “lower total cost of IT ownership thanks to simplified data center architecture, consistent and predictable performance, faster application delivery, improved agility, IT service levels accurately matched to capacity requirements and much more,†he added.
