Raytheon has concluded the development of software and hardware components for a ground control system that will work to update global positioning system capacities in the U.S.
Built under a U.S. Air Force modernization initiative, the GPS Next-Generation Operational Control System will undergo system integration and tests and is on schedule for delivery in 2021, the company said Tuesday.
The firm developed 1.5M lines of software code through commercial processes and utilized information assurance practices to help the system meet the Department of Defense’s cybersecurity standards for space platforms.
“GPS OCX is one of the largest, most complex software development programs in the Department of Defense, and we’re now in the home stretch toward full system delivery,†said Dave Wajsgras, president of Raytheon’s intelligence, information and services business and a 2019 Wash100 awardee.
According to Raytheon, USAF fielded the GPS III satellite in 2018 with the help of the GPS OCX’s launch and checkout platform.
