The Space Foundation’s board of directors has approved the appointment of public and private sector representatives to key positions at the global nonprofit organization throughout a term that will end in 2021.

Former NASA astronaut Kathryn Thornton has been named chairwoman while Jeffrey Grant, former vice president and general manager of space systems at Northrop Grumman’s aerospace systems business, will take over as vice chair, the Space Foundation said Wednesday.

Peter Trainer, vice president and general manager for Air Force solutions at BAE Systems, will serve as secretary while Thomas Feeney, president and CEO of the Associated Industries of Florida, was appointed as treasurer.

Other industry representatives that joined the organization’s board include Nicolas Chamussy, an adviser at Airbus, and Paul Engola, head of business partnerships and chief human resources officer at Leidos.

Retired Air Force Gen. Samuel Greaves, former director of the Missile Defense Agency, was also named to the board.

The Space Foundation is headquartered in Colorado Springs and works to promote space certification and education in the space industry.
