Leonardo DRS and Israel-based partner Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have jointly delivered the first unit of a new technology designed to actively protect the U.S. Army’s Abrams battle tanks.
The Trophy Active Protection System will address anti-armor threats, such as rockets and missiles, Leonardo DRS said Friday.
It also works to report the origin location of enemy fire. Both firms are working to equip the system on four tank brigades with the Army and the U.S. Marine Corps under contracts issued last year.
“We are proud to deliver the first advanced defensive protection systems for our front-line tanks to give our warfighters a needed layer of survivability against real and emerging battlefield threats,†said William Lynn, CEO at Leonardo DRS.
