Kratos Defense and Security Solutions has demonstrated launching and flight of its XQ-58A Valkyrie unmanned aircraft systems. The company said Thursday that it completed testing of the UAS’ flight, recovery parachute system and descent functions over the 90-minute trial.
The test flight achieved a full score of baseline test points. However, the aircraft’s prototype cushion system exhibited an error that caused aircraft damage during landing.
The company will not use the test cushion system for the final product. It has already assessed damages and the next flight will occur after the company addresses the cushion system’s issue. Kratos and the Air Force Research Laboratory are working together towards Valkyrie’s full completion of testing.
