A shipbuilding division of Huntington Ingalls Industries delivered a ninth Virginia-class fast attack submarine to the U.S. Navy on Friday.
The service branch took delivery of Delaware, designated as SSN 791, the 18th underwater vessel HII's Newport News Shipbuilding unit built through a teaming agreement with General Dynamics' Electric Boat subsidiary, HII said Monday.
Construction work commenced in September 2013 and involved more than 10K workers from both companies. The watercraft completed trials at sea earlier this month.
“Like the last two submarines we delivered to the Navy, Delaware has received some of the highest quality scores since the Virginia-class program began,†said Dave Bolcar, vice president of submarine construction at Newport News.
