The U.S. Navy has concluded a series of acceptance trials for a Huntington Ingalls Industry-built America-class amphibious assault ship.
Codenamed LHA 7, Tripoli underwent vital test procedures and a full-power run of its main propulsion system in the Gulf of Mexico for three days, HII said Wednesday.
The vessel houses an expanded hangar deck and stowage and is built to accommodate an expeditionary strike group.
“We have worked closely with our Navy partners to ensure that LHA 7 will provide unparalleled sea basing capabilities for the Navy’s amphibious ready groups and the Marine Corps Air-Ground Task Forces,†said Brian Cuccias, president of HII’s shipbuilding business.
The future America-Class Bougainville ship is now in production at the company's shipyard facility.
