TYSONS CORNER, VA, October 1, 2019 — Matt Kraning, co-founder and chief technology officer at cybersecurity company Expanse, has said the government must aim for “continuous technical validation” to more efficiently protect its information assets, which could be housed in the databases of the numerous suppliers and contractors that it works with, GovCon Wire reported Sept. 17.
“When assets aren’t managed or monitored by IT, they are less likely to be updated or patched and are more likely to be vulnerable,” Kraning wrote.
In his article, Kraning cited cases where federal information had been compromised, including an incident where foreign hackers were able to access U.S. Navy data from a private contractor’s database.
He noted that Expanse has been chosen by the Defense Information Systems Agency to keep track of the Department of Defense Information Network’s internet attack surface.
