CenturyLink to Help Upgrade California’s 911 Calling System

CenturyLink will work to help California modernize the state’s 911 emergency call system under a new agreement with the governor’s Office of Emergency Service.

The company said Tuesday it will provide a Next Generation 911 platform linked to the CenturyLink Tier 1 multi-protocol label switching network that facilitates connectivity across public safety applications, intelligence, management and associated services.

Sonia Ramsey, regional vice president at CenturyLink, said the company’s provided network will work to increase speed and resiliency of 911 services in Southern California.

“The system will allow residents to contact 911 from anywhere, at any time and from most devices,” Ramsey added.

CenturyLink will provide internet protocol software services, an emergency IP network, call routing and other applications to support the state’s 911 modernization.

The company’s NG 911 technology complies with standards provided by the National Emergency Number Association.
