AAR Deploys Donecle-Built UAS to Miami Facility Under Tech Partnership

AAR has incorporated a Donecle-built unmanned aircraft system into its Miami facility to support maintenance, repair and overhaul operations under a one-year technology agreement.

The UAS is built to evaluate lightning strike markings and scan aircraft units for any structural damage, AAR said Thursday.

In addition, the drone can use laser positioning capacities to conduct a visual inspection of A320 and B737 aircraft systems in under one hour.

AAR and Donecle may implement the drone technology to other MRO sites following the results of the initial agreement.

“In the case of our MRO sites, our investments in technologies like drones, machine learning and mobile devices will drive a more efficient operation, optimized technician schedules, as well as improved turnaround times achieved through faster and more accurate inspections and maintenance plan execution,” said Rahul Ghai, chief digital officer at AAR.

Donecle has developed technology that works to accelerate aircraft inspections via automated drone and image analysis algorithms.
