T-Worx Holdings will offer its networked rail platform to help U.S. Army contractors create a new series of squad firearms.

The company said Friday that it will provide its T-Worx Intelligent Rail platform, which is designed to centralize power and data analytics activities within firearms in support of user safety and performance, that the Army requires in rifles under the Next Generation Squad Weapons program.

Intelligent Rail will help General Dynamics, AAI, Textron Systems and Sig Sauer develop NGSW systems before the Army selects the competition’s winner in 2022. The Department of Defense will use $370M in fiscal 2020 funds for research and development to fund the first five years of the NGSW program.

DoD expects to spend a total of $1.5B to deploy 250,000 NGSW units across the 10-year procurement program.
