SpaceX has formally requested the Federal Communications Commission to enable data exchange activities with its Starship Mk1 rocket as part of launch, landing and recovery operations at the company’s South Texas location, Teslarati reported Tuesday.
The FCC application came after reports that the Federal Aviation Administration is on track to approve SpaceX’s Boca Chica launch site for the rocket prototype’s first flight slated for October.
SpaceX company has been working on Starship’s engineering modifications as well as renovations at Boca Chica to include concrete pads and additional hardware for future launch vehicles.
According to documents obtained by Business Insider, FAA is expected to approve SpaceX’s activities at the launch site following the agency’s reevaluation of the company’s 2014 Environmental Impact Statement.
Starship is expected to reach an altitude of approximately 12.5 miles and land within 100 feet from the launch site as part of its test flight.
