NASA is seeking small businesses to take part in its Safeguard with Autonomous Navigation Demonstration Challenge, which focuses on helping private sector entities verify their unmanned aerial vehicle products. Participants will make use of the Safeguard UAV monitoring tool developed by NASA’s Langley Research Center in Virginia as part of the effort, the agency said Tuesday.
Safeguard is designed to mitigate safety risks and prevent commercial UAVs from going beyond approved airspace and entering prohibited locations. As part of the challenge, the tool will provide warnings on UAV flight violations and conduct system performance assessments in line with flight operation requirements and property-related regulations.
The competition is slated to take place in Hampton, Va., in May 2020.
