NASA has launched the second phase of its robotics competition, which seeks autonomous platforms that will help the agency carry out space exploration missions, Fedscoop reported Wednesday.
The Space Robotics Challenge aims to push the development of autonomous robots that will work in areas without GPS coverage, such as the surface of the moon.
In addition, NASA is looking for robots that can deliver supplies to astronauts stationed on the moon through the use of “local resources.â€
The agency will select 25 finalists from the initial pool and is set to award $1M in cash for the final winner. Registration for the competition will run through Dec. 20.
