Huntington Ingalls Industries has concluded initial sea trials for the U.S. Navy’s future USS Delaware submarine, SSN 791. The Virginia-class vessel carried out high-speed underwater and surface exercises during the three-day demonstration, the company said Saturday.

Over 10,000 workers from HII’s Newport News shipbuilding business and General Dynamics’ Electric Boat subsidiary have teamed up during the construction of the submarine. Delaware will enter a series of acceptance trials prior to its delivery to the Navy.

“Delaware performed well during sea trials, which is a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the incredible team of shipbuilders who are working to uphold our high standards of quality,” said Dave Bolcar, vice president of submarine construction at HII’s Newport News shipbuilding division.
