QinetiQ North America will design, assess and validate an electronic grounding unit for the active shaft grounding system of Virginia-class submarines under a subcontract from General Dynamics’ Electric Boat subsidiary.
The award follows an initial contract that covered the design and production of an electromechanical actuator power conditioner and controller unit for Block V submarine weapon stowage and handling systems, QinetiQ NA said Monday.
ASG platforms are intended to mitigate corrosion and lower external electromagnetic fields at the underwater vessel’s hull.
“This effort aligns with QNA’s strategic goals of providing similar technologies and products to help modernize our surface and submarine fleet,†said Andrew Courier, vice president of maritime systems at QinetiQ NA.
