The Environmental Protection Agency has honored Equinix with the 2019 Green Power Leadership Award in validation of the company’s usage of clean and renewable energy.

Equinix said Friday that the recognition seeks to validate organizations for their contribution and commitment to further the development of green power technologies. It received the award at the 2019 Renewable Energy Markets Conference, which took place on Sept. 5 in San Diego.

The firm intends to integrate local sources of renewable and low-carbon energy for its services. Equinix noted that it utilizes over 2.2B kilowatt-hours of electricity from renewable energy projects and has landed agreements to purchase 225 megawatts of wind power from wind farms in Oklahoma and Texas.

“Investing in green power purchase agreements with wind farms in Texas and Oklahoma is a highly visible demonstration of our commitment to reducing air pollution and other emissions and mitigating our carbon footprint for ourselves, our customers and the broader world,” said Raouf Abdel, executive vice president of global operations at Equinix.
