Raytheon has authorized CPI Aerostructures to produce components of a mid-band jammer test unit under a potential $23.3M contract that ends this year.
CPI said Wednesday it will work to produce pod structures and air management system parts of the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band’s test article with $2M of initial production funds.
The aircraft-focused company aims to complete deliveries of these pods and components to Raytheon through the middle of 2021.
“We estimate that the total value to CPI Aero from the NGJ-MB production phase could be in excess of an additional $150M through 2030,†said Douglas McCrosson, president and CEO at CPI Aero.
Raytheon will use these deliveries to develop the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band, a weapons system designed to provide the EA-18G Growler aircraft with airborne electronic attack features. A Growler unit can carry two NGJ-MB pods.
The U.S. Navy received the first NGJ-MB engineering development model in July for integration testing.
