BAE Systems has finalized the design for an augmented reality tool designed to equip users with image stabilization and head-tracking capabilities.

The company said Thursday the final product will come in the form of a pair of glasses and will provide targeting, guidance, sensor videos and mission data through the use of free-space tracking technology.

BAE noted that the platform underwent various changes since 2017 including the implementation of an inertial head-tracker and the shift from monochrome display to a full-color panel. The firm intends to continue the development of the technology to address future clients’ power, size and weight standards.

“Our engineers have been working closely with real-world end users, in both military and commercial domains, to ensure the technology meets and exceeds customer expectations,” said Nigel Kidd, director of head-mounted displays at BAE.

BAE has started efforts to explore the application of AR systems onto naval vessels.
