Horacio Rozanski, president and CEO of Booz Allen Hamilton, said that the defense sector may face challenges when implementing artificial intelligence in battlefield operations during the “Military Readiness in the Age of AI” panel the Atlantic Festival on Sept. 24th. However, he believes the technology will advance once deployed.

“Training an AI has to happen in the place where the AI is going to operate,” said Rozanski.

Tom Arseneault, president and COO of BAE Systems’ U.S. subsidiary, suggested the use of a modeling approach to test AI technology.

“We model the environment in which they operate and all of that can happen in a virtual world,” Arseneault noted.

Their remarks came after Lt. Gen. Jack Shanahan, director of the Department of Defense’s Joint Artificial Intelligence Center provided an update on the funds and priorities of JAIC.
