Zipline has partnered with the Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit to develop unmanned aircraft systems designed to address the supply needs of battlefield emergencies, FedScoop reported Wednesday.

The startup company, which focuses on small drones that carry and deliver medical supplies in parachuted packages, is working with the DoD under an other transaction agreement. Work will also include the development of exercises on supply delivery during scenarios with higher chance of death prevention.

Elissa Smith, a DoD spokesperson, told FedScoop that the department seeks to identify how drones can support medical activities during conflicts, disasters and humanitarian catastrophes.
