The U.S. Air Force has awarded a total of $123,000 to hackers for a bug bounty program with Hanscom Air Force Base and cybersecurity crowdsourcing firm Bugcrowd, Defense Systems reported Aug. 9.
During the three-month effort, participants discovered 54 vulnerabilities associated with cloud computing environment issues including false configuration access. The program’s continuous monitoring began in March and ended in June. Cash prizes were given to the hackers, with $20,000 being the top prize.
USAF uses Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure to host activities within the service branch’s common computing environment. Clair Koroma, a bureaucracy hacker from the Defense Digital Service, said the Air Force aims to gather more input in future bug bounty programs.
