A Northrop Grumman-made lightweight, anti-infrared system has attained initial operational test and evaluation status with the U.S. Army.
The Common Infrared Countermeasure system uses laser energy to protect aircraft from enemy infrared threats, and employs a modular architecture to accommodate integration with systems required by different scenarios, Northrop said Wednesday.
CIRCM is currently in its low rate initial production phase and has entered initial operational testing.
Bob Gough, vice president at Northrop Grumman’s land and avionics command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance division, said the operational testing will help the system attain full-rate production and wide deployment.
