A FluorUnited Infrastructure Group joint venture has secured a $263M contract from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to update and expand an interstate highway.

The joint venture will build seven new bridges and add two new lanes in each direction within a seven-and-a-half-mile stretch in the Interstate 26 highway, Fluor said Wednesday. Construction will begin in the fall and the JV expects to complete all tasks by 2024.

Terry Towle, president at Fluor’s infrastructure and power business, said the project will potentially lower traffic congestion and augment driver safety in the interstate. “When completed, it will upgrade access to existing roadway connections and improve existing road surface conditions,” Towle added.
