Battle Sight Technologies and the Air Force Research Laboratory have entered into a licensing agreement for an infrared phosphor technology designed to aid military training and communications in the battlefield. The technology can absorb ultraviolet light at daytime and emit IR light during the night, the U.S. Air Force said Wednesday.

Issuance of the patent license comes one year and five months after AFRL granted the company exclusive rights to use laboratory-developed microencapsulated chemiluminescent materials.

The service branch noted that IR products work to help military personnel locate friendly ground tropps and aircraft. BST received a $165K contract from the Air Force in March to further develop products that can support communications in low-light or no-light conditions.
