Commnet Wireless, a subsidiary of ATN International, has received a potential 25-year, $167.5M contract to provide network construction and maintenance services to support AT&T’s southwestern U.S. mobile services, Light Reading reported Thursday.
AT&T intends to use a Commnet Wireless-built network to also deliver offerings via a national public safety system.
In 2017, the telecommunications firm secured a potential 6.5B contract to build FirstNet, a wireless broadband network for emergency response personnel.
Analysts at financial services company Raymond James said they forecast that Commnet will finish the construction project by the first quarter of 2021 to help AT&T address FirstNet buildout goals.
The outsourcing deal has a base period of 10 years and five three-year renewal provisions, which either party may discontinue at their discretion. Under the agreement, Commnet, will also maintain the transmission networks and radio systems as well as respond to customer repair requests.
