Charles River Analytics will develop a cybersecurity tool for tanks under an agreement with the U.S. Army. The company said Wednesday its Controller Area Network Defense in Depth or CANDID tool, which will consist of both hardware and software, will facilitate cyber threat detection in tanks that use commercial protocols.

CANDID studies normal system behavior to identify threats and then addresses corrupt messages transmitted from unauthorized systems without compromising the tank’s operations. The tool is also applicable to cybersecurity of commercial vehicles that are linked to controller area networks.

Charles River Analytics used expertise from multiple scientific and engineering disciplines such as applied robotics and decision management to develop CANDID.
