Cybersecurity company Tenable has released a set of proposed guidelines in convincing people of the importance of cybersecurity of public services in local governments, highlighting the role of local officials in essential city functions including public safety and power distribution.
The company advises local governments to implement cybersecurity as a key public safety element, develop cybersecurity community campaigns and include cybersecurity in K-12 curricula, Stephen Smith, a business development manager at Tenable, wrote in a blog post published Tuesday.
In addition, the blog post emphasizes citizens’ lack of awareness of the relationship between cybersecurity and public services.
Smith also noted the educational use of cybersecurity to reduce the barriers that divide people based on digital literacy. This approach may help more people pursue careers in the cyber industry, he wrote.
