The Space Development Agency seeks industry input on the development and deployment of a new space defense architecture to support defense and communications goals.

SDA said Monday in a FedBizOpps notice it requests for information on satellite bus, payload, applique and launch concepts in support of a mission to protect space assets.

For the architecture, the agency is considering using a seven-layer approach to address needs in round-the-clock global communication as well as global surveillance for missile warning, missile targeting, alternatives to the global positioning system, space situational awareness between the Earth and the Moon, ground-based space support and other purposes.

The proposed system of constellations will consist of space transport, tracking, custody, deterrence, navigation, battle management and support layers.

Interested firms may submit responses through Aug. 5. SDA also intends to announce an industry day for the effort.
