Lockheed Martin has received a five-year, $600M industry contract to deliver 24 APY-9 radars to Northrop Grumman for a U.S. Navy program.

Northrop will use the APY-9 ultra high frequency radars, which were designed to detect smaller targets in coastal environments, for the Navy’s E-2D Advanced Hawkeye early warning aircraft, Lockheed said Thursday.

The new award follows an existing APY-9 radar contract that will end in 2020. Lockheed will deliver radar units from 2021 to 2025 under the new contract. The firm will also deliver a new radar processor as part of the agreement.

Work will take place at Lockheed-owned facilities in Syracuse and Owego, N.Y., and Clearwater, Fla.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to continue producing APY-9 radars for the Navy’s use on its Advanced Hawkeye aircraft and to continue supporting our customers with performance upgrades on a regular basis,” said Ken Kaminski, airborne and national surveillance radar program director at Lockheed Martin.
