MTS Systems Gets Army Contract to Deliver Vehicle Simulator

MTS Systems has received a potential $30.4M contract to design and construct a spindle-coupled road simulator for the U.S. Army’s Maryland-based Aberdeen Test Center.

It will develop what will be the largest spindle-coupled road simulator in the world under the contract through fiscal year 2022, the company said Monday.

The Army will use the simulator to evaluate vehicle durability and reduce potential of in-field errors. The simulator would work to speed up durability testing of military vehicles, reducing the time required for assessment by 75 to 80 percent.

MTS Systems will also equip the simulator with EVO 50 Wheel Force Transducers that support data gathering on terrain performance.

“This road simulator is a scaled-up extension of the heavy truck testing technology that MTS has developed over the last fifty years,” said Jeffrey Graves, president and CEO at MTS.

The service branch will fund the effort incrementally across multiple fiscal years under the contract.
