Charles River Analytics has received funds in the amount of $4.5M to support a reasoning testing project in support of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity.

In a press release published Tuesday, Charles River Analytics said that the Reasoning About Multiple Paths and Alternatives to Generate Effective Forecasts, or RAMPAGE, effort aims to provide a tool that analysts can use to test different reasoning methods. The company will work with the Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech Research Institute, Michigan Technological University and the University of Maryland on the effort.

RAMPAGE will help analysts assess multiple methods with empirical data to generate forecasts. Charles River Analytics will contribute cognitive modeling expertise to support and simplify multi-path reasoning under RAMPAGE.

“This forecasting method provides a foundation to help analysts understand the world and its complex interconnections, as well as lessons learned—implications to improve future analyses based on this deep understanding,” said Ashley McDermott, a scientist at Charles River Analytics.

RAMPAGE supports IARPA’s Focus program, which aims to identify ways to handle counterfactual forecasting.
