Hughes Network Systems will provide a broadband internet service to state and local government agencies through a contract with the National Association of State Procurement Officials.
The HughesNet for Business offering is designed to connect public offices and facilities such as schools, police stations and environmental monitoring stations, the company said Tuesday.
“Today, the internet is essential for every kind of organization, including local government agencies that provide fundamental services to citizens in all corners of the states,” said Tony Bardo, assistant vice president of government solutions at Hughes.
The company will offer services under the contract’s “Alternative Wireless Transport Options” category and noted that 22 states intend to use the procurement vehicle. HughesNet is designed to transmit data at a speed of 25 megabytes per second.
