HTX Labs has received a Small Business Innovation Research Phase II contract from the U.S. Air Force to further develop a virtual reality simulation technology for use in the service branch's education and training programs.Â
The company said Tuesday its EMPACT Virtual Reality platform will allow Air Force personnel and trainers to assess the efficacy of VR-based training simulations and come up with immersive training content to directly evaluate a student's physical performance against an experienced professional.Â
The multimodal VR learning system will include first- and third-person points of view that will allow students to mimic and observe the expert within an immersive environment.Â
The Houston-based software company also plans to equip the technology with a scoring rubric and 3D data visualization component to help the service branch analyze datasets within immersive environments.
The Air Force awarded the first phase of the SBIR contract to HTX in April.
