Huntington Ingalls Industries has completed builder’s trials of Tripoli, the second America-class amphibious assault ship. Tripoli, also known as LHA 7 underwent four days of ship system testing in the Gulf of Mexico, HII said Monday. The testing covered various functions including main propulsion and combat systems.
Brian Cuccias, president at HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division, said the ship’s leadership team will now prepare Tripoli for U.S. Navy acceptance trials. The ship’s flight deck modifications are designed to allot more aviation capacity and address modern threats around the globe, he added.
Tripoli also features a large hangar deck, expanded aviation maintenance facilities, boosted aircraft fuel storage and more space for spare parts and support tools.
